“Rise. Let us embrace you.”
“I have been researching Oriande for centuries…
hoping to learn more about my Altean ancestry.”
“It was something the Galra considered a weakness…
but I considered it a strength.”
thank you so much!
could everyone rb this and add one nice, non-angsty hc they have for Lotor?
i’ll start: i hc him as being really fascinated at the concept of human games because Galra games were like, fighting, so he’s like “huh…Uno… the point is to run out of cards and no one dies at the end….. this is so fascinating”
weakness for ugly alien animal babies. normal fluffy puppies and kittens? they aiight. that small mass of tentacles with too many eyes making a high-pitched cooing noise? oh no it’s so cute I want to see it grow up strong and healthy 😭😭😭
You know that thing that cats do when they just freeze mid bite or stare into nothingness and make little squeaky noises, he does that quite frequently
He gets semi-addicted to the hours of Altean day time TV that Coran recorded from before the war. When they’re not training, he can be found curled up on a sofa somewhere, lazily pressing ‘Next Episode’ because he’s deeply caught up in the trashiest soap plot ever.
Lotor can improvise on the fly, but it’s not his preference. If he knows he’ll be speaking publicly, he has a series of vocal exercises he likes to use to warm up. He also practices lots of inflections, usually alone but sometimes with an ally.
So on the trip of take the Galra throne, Lotor was pacing behind Shiro’s chair, trying out a dozen different inflections and making Shiro to rank them based on different attributes (wisdom, intelligence, intimidation, inspiring).
(Shiro is also very versed in public speaking, both practiced and improvisational, so he had well thought out opinions. It raised Lotor’s estimation of him.)
Somewhere in the universe is a secret climate-controlled warehouse full of meticulously catalogued and curated Altean artifacts. Even the most trivial of ancient Altean trash is handled with care.
growing up at the galra headquarters wasn’t ideal for, well, obvious reasons, among them being the severe lack of altean folklore and history books/technology/whatever they use. what few had been retained and what few lotor had been able to get his hands on, he studied religiously, but he didn’t have anyone around him who was an expert. due to that, he has a hard time separating fact from fiction. (oriande was part luck part smarts.)
the first time coran mentions king groggery the infirm around lotor, he gets a quick laugh out of it, says, “oh, i get that one.” until he notices that coran is giving him an odd look. “the fairy tale of king groggery, isn’t it?”
“fairy tale? prince lotor, he was quite real!”
“…and your people actually called him ‘the infirm’?”
coran isn’t fond of him, sure, but that doesn’t mean he’ll miss the opportunity to share his vast expertise with someone who is willing to listen.
(more under the cut)
kaltenecker is his favorite living being on the castle ship behind allura and shiro. he’s all for alien creatures, after all.
with over 10,000 years of warfare under the empire’s belt, its traditional culture has more or less died out, primarily the arts. lotor has never had the opportunity to learn traditional galran dances, but he has taken it upon himself to learn what steps he can from planets he visits. kythra is a planet whose dance culture is one of his favorites, and that he knows several dances from there delights zethrid. (though she’s quick to call him out on how he’s doing it wrong.)
speaking of learning the cultures of other planets, he’s built up a strong alcohol tolerance due to parties and ceremonies. and, if he is drunk, which definitely isn’t often, he’s an expert at hiding it. he’s a sleepy drunk. (which stems from him getting migraines often. he’s fond of naps, when he can get them.)
he knows constellations and star systems like the back of his hand! he’s had a long time to study them, after all. ask him to name a star from galaxy so-and-so from quadrant whatshername and he’ll have it, snap.
how he looks isn’t one of his top priorities, but he understands that appearances are important. he has a sharp eye for aesthetics because of this. (it’s why everything about his faction matches perfectly. thank you kova.) that said, though, he gave up on taming his cowlick a long, long time ago.
on the topic of aesthetics, he adores architecture. it’s one of his favorite parts about traveling to new planets, and one reason why he enjoys exploring ruins so much. altean architecture has an obvious soft spot in his heart. (altean clothing, too. the first time he sees allura’s dress? awe over those “genuine altean threads”)
also, pidge’s color-coding? it’s ideal and lovely. he gives his regards to the small human.
it’s a far-off thought, but the idea of being a father enamors him. he wants to be better than zarkon ever was. (don’t worry, though, because he already is.)
he never experienced the deserts of daibazaal, but most galra were adapted to a warmer climate in those times. his genes reflect that — and as a result, he ended up hating the cold. necessary precautions must be taken for ice and snow planets, and by that i mean several coats with heating technology. (this dislike also stems from zarkon and haggar both having cold skin, the first cold he ever encountered as a child. that stayed with him. what he doesn’t like to admit is that he has cold skin, himself. being somewhat undead is difficult.)
on deserts, though, his first visit to earth? the galaxy garrison in arizona? he loves the deserts there. they’re reminiscent of what he understands of daibazaal. “paladins, you didn’t tell me your home was so… magnificent.”

Mothers of Voltron: Legendary Defender
Olia has a child???
two sons! she keeps photos of them on the console of her ship!
awe thank you anon! i’d love to do more, for sure! that scene in particular just stood out to me because we had finally, finally gotten them in the same lighting where one of their faces isn’t vaguely obscured. seemed like a perfect opportunity!
i’ll gather more screenshots eventually :3c
While not explicitly stated in canon (which stands to reason, given we don’t need to dedicate a lot of time to sitting down with a minor character to be introduced to her family), showrunner Lauren Montgomery sat down with Greg Tyler from the “Let’s Voltron” podcast to discuss our favorite alien dog.
In the interview, Lauren confirms that during the episode “Begin the Blitz”, we’re able to see that Olia has family photos taped to the side of her ship’s console.
And a closer view:
In the photos, we see Olia’s two sons, and in the top left, a photo of her (deceased) brother and her sister-in-law. (All photos were taken by Olia’s late husband, another member of the rebel forces.)
After posting my “Mothers of Voltron” gifset, I noticed that Olia’s family wasn’t common knowledge, which makes sense, but I thought the interview with Lauren to provide some nice insight on Olia as a character, and as a mom!
HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY! I wanted to do the space mom’s this year (last year I did Pidge and Lance) but today I get to sit and draw only tonight 😢 so no Krolia and Honerva only Allura’s mom and baby Allura ❤️❤️❤️.
(Ps. I know I’m shit at drawing flowers, but I tried to draw Azalea, I don’t know in the rest of the world, but in Italy, today, we use to gift our mothers those!)
“What about your generals?”
“A simple misunderstanding.”
keitor (my favorite), acxa/ezor, lotura, shotor, lancelot, lotor… lotor… you get the picture
i also have the occasional soft spot for allurance (but really, any ship is fair game? i just focus more on lotor and his relationships!)
